Winterfeast 2012

Our youth would like to cordially invite you our annual Winterfeast Dinner. On February 10, 2011 at 6:30pm, in the Worship Center, our youth will provide an elegant chicken parmisagn dinner, accompanied by live music, dance floor as well as a silent auction. All proceeds will go, specifically, to each youth who serves, in order to earn funds for GCUMC ministries, such as Christian Adventure Camp and Youth Mission Trips. Tickets are $15 each and our on sale today in the Great Hall. Often friends and families, who benefit from the Youth Minsitry at GCUMC, want to assist in our

fundraising efforts. Collecting auction items is an easy way to show your support for our Winterfeast fundraiser, whether or not you attend the event. We are seeking items, gift cards, services, and

Spring Retreat

Come and join us for our second annual Spring Retreat, February 24-26. Ok, it’s a little earlier than spring this year, but it will be a great way to prepare for the upcoming season. We will meet at Trinity UMC, Friday at 8pm for registration. The whole weekend will be led by a team or adults from GCUMC, Trinity UMC and students from ONU. The retreat will end at 12pm on Sunday with a pit luck dinner for parents, youth and families. The cost of the retreat is $10 per student and a covered dish for the potluck Sunday lunch.

Souper Bowl Party

Sunday February 5 at 6:30pm the youth of GCUMC will be having a Super Bowl Party instead of regular youth group. Youth are encouraged to attend, bring a friend and have a good time. The game room will be open, the game will be on and food will be aplenty. All attendants are also encouraged to bring his/her favorite soup to share with the group. Bowls and spoons will be provided, but if you bring your own you won’t be shunned. . Christmas Caroling This Sunday!!

On December 11, 2011 the youth and children’s ministries will be Christmas caroling at our local nursring himes. All students and family members should gather in the FLC at 5pm. We will then carpool or walk (depending on group) to our local nursing homes. After caroling we will all meet up again in the FLC of cookies and hot chocolate. Drivers needed. First of the Month Luncheon Today in the Cafe

All members of our church family are encouraged to come enjoy the flavors of a Jamaican Christmas. Sunday, December 4^th, our first of the month will be provided by our 2012 Jamaican Mission Team. Individuals interested in participating in the 2012 Jamaican Mission trip are invited to come help prepare and serve food for the luncheon. All proceeds will be used to help individuals and families afford the trip to Jamaica.

Ski Trip 2012

January 13-15 we will be joining Trinity UMC for a weekend of winter fun. We will leave after school Friday night and return home late Sunday evening. We will be skiing at Peek n Peak and staying at Edward’s Chapel UMC. The cost for the trip will be $100-$175 depending on experience and equipment rental, plus meals $40. Those interested in attending should register with Rob Pemberton by email at robp@gcumc.org and attend a mandatory meeting at Trinity UMC on January 8, 2012, time TBD.

Upcoming Chrysalis Dates

Chrysalis is a unique form of ministry for youth and young adults, ages 15-24. The roots of the Chrysalis Flight and Chrysalis Journey are deeply planted in its parent movement, the Walk to Emmaus. Much like the Walk to Emmaus, Chrysalis is a three day experience of God's love and grace in the context of a prayerful Christian community. This community will consist of other people your age in worship, prayer, fellowship, creative expression, recreation, singing, and discussion. You'll experience the love of God through prayers and the acts of service from a loving support community. Sponsor’s act now!

Sunday Night Youth Programming Getting a Facelift

Staring January 8^th, 2012, we will have a new format for our Sunday evening youth programming. We will continue to meet at the same time, 5-6:30pm, but we will be working hard to give our middle school and high school students a time of their own. Each age group will have a separate game, worship time, snack time and lesson. It will be very exciting. The Sunday night leadership team has been working very hard to create something that will impact our students for Christ and maximize the fun. Come on and check us out!!

We will be having a Youth Ministry Advisory Council meeting tomorrow evening at 7pm in the Hospitality Room. I hope you can make it. During the meeting we will be focusing mainly on Christian Adventure Camp and the daily schedule. If you plan on attending Camp this year, this would be a great meeting for you to attend. If you are not super interested in Cam, this may be a good meeting to skip. After the talk and run through the daily schedule we will be discussing the future of Small Groups for GCUMC Youth.

Youth Sunday

Sunday May 1, 2011, the Sunday after Easter, our youth will be involved in and leading all three services. Our students will be preaching, leading worship, ushering and supplying our drama team. Please join us Tuesday, April 5^th at 12:30pm for our planning meeting at the church office.

30 Hour Famine

Our youth will be participating in the 30 Hour Famine, an overnight event with no food, outdoor sleeping accommodations and a canned food drive. This event will coincide with the opening of the new office for the Grove City Food Pantry. Stay tuned for more information.

Christian Adventure Camp is coming soon

CAC will be here before you know and now is the time to plan. This year’s camp will be held June 12-17 at YMCA Camp Willson. The cost for camp will be $250 per person. This year’s theme will be American Idol: Break the Chain, items that stand between us and God, Companions, Habits, Attitudes, Ignorance and Negative Spiritual Forces. Camp will also run a little longer this year. Pick up will not start until 4:30pm on Friday afternoon. This change will give us an extra day of lesson and one last time to enjoy waterfront time. Registration is available online at gcumc.org, click on youth.

Prayer Ministry Team Training

This May we will be offering Prayer Ministry Training for all CAC counselors, interested high school students and others that want to be involved. PMT will involve one on one and group training of how to recognize the Holy Spirit, words to pray while laying hands and proper techniques for praying for others in public. This training will be mandatory for those praying for youth at CAC Consecration night. Exact date TBD.

Summer Mission Trip

July 23-29, 2011 our high school students are invited to Jackson, OH to help those less fortunate than us on our annual summer mission trip. This year’s trip will include porch building, painting, roofing and more. We will be joining forces Jeff Kincaid (from Chrysalis) and Peace UMC. We will need 5 adult leaders to help with this trip. If interested please contact Rob Pemberton at 614-403-0140 or youthdir@gcumc.org. This trip will cost $100. Registration will start April 1, 2011.

Spring Retreat
Looking for the next great retreat? Well here it is! Our first annual Spring Retreat is March 11-13 at Trinity UMC (on Haughn Road). The retreat starts at 6pm on Friday and runs till noon on Sunday. The theme will be Spiritual Growth. The retreat is led by the Student Ministry team from Ohio Northern University. The cost is $20. Grades 6th-12th are invited. HIGH SCHOOL SERVICE OPPORTUNITY
March 19th from 7:30am to 11am we will be serving breakfast at 4th and Gates UMC. We will join the congregation at 4th and Gates UMC to serve over 200 people a free breakfast consisting of eggs, sausage gravy, biscuits, pancakes, fruit and more. In order to feed so many people, they need our help. Please clear your calendar and join us in serving this meal. Because Jesus said “For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat…” Matthew 25:35

Senior Pictures
This year we would like to honor our graduating seniors with a video montage of family photos, but we need your help. We need you to gather up 4-5 photos of your graduating senior and turn them into the office by April 1st. We suggest a baby picture, an elementary school picture, a sports picture and of course a senior picture. If you have a graduating senior in your family please contact Rob Pemberton at the church office.

Revolve Tour
This Years Revolve Tour is March 25-26 at Nationwide Arena. The Girls will meet at the church on Friday at 5:30pm. Transportation will be provided over to Nationwide Arena. The girls will be staying overnight at the Drury Inn downtown. We will provide food for the girls when they get to the hotel on Friday, but this will not be until10pm. Please have your daughter eat something before she comes on Friday. The conference begins again on Saturday at 9am. The girls will eat breakfast on Saturday and then head over to Nationwide Arena around 8am. The conference runs until 4pm on Saturday. Your daughter can be picked up from the church at 4:30pm on Saturday. All meals will be provided throughout the weekend.

CAC Registration Starts
Christian Adventure Camp is June 12-17, 2011 at YMCA Camp Willson in Bellefontaine, OH. The cost is $250 per student and registration starts March 1, 2011. We have some new options for registration this year. You can now register and pay online. Check us out at www.gcumc.org.

Youth Sunday/Graduation Sunday
May 1, 2011 the youth we be participating and leading all 3 Sunday morning worship services. We will need all youth to help with this event. Sunday morning will include worship, liturgy, preaching, drama, ushers, communion and more. Please begin to pray about where God would like to use you for this event.

High School Mission Trip
This summer’s mission trip is planned for July 23-29, 2011 and now is the time to sign up. We will be partnering with Peace UMC from Pickerington, OH. Some of you may know Peace UMC Youth Pastor, Jeff Kincaid from Chrysalis. We will be working with Jackson Area Ministries in Southern Ohio. Jackson Area Ministries is a United Methodist faith-based mission committed to partner with others to improve the quality of living within the Appalachian counties of Ohio. The trip will cost $100. We will be working on small projects throughout the city of Jackson in Southern Central Ohio.

It's His Universe

"For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him." (Colossians 1:16)

Have you ever heard or used that expression: "It's so-and-so's world; we're just living in it."? This week you might hear someone say, "It's Miley Cyrus's world; we're just living in it."

It's a funny thing to say, but of course it's true for only one being: Jesus. He made everything. Every living thing. Every non-living thing. Everything you can see or can't. Every being that breathes or exists somehow without breath. And it was all made "for him." It's literally His universe; we're just living in it.

Hearing that can either make you feel jealous and small and angry about the inequality of a universe where one being has all that power -- or it can make you feel deeply grateful that such a being is also a person who would willingly sacrifice Himself on a cross to include you in His plans for that universe.

What's your response?

Think: How much power would it take to create everything in the universe? How much control would the Creator have over all that exists in His universe? Why, again, would Jesus let Himself be mocked and killed by a handful of His tiny, weak creatures?

Pray: Thank God for letting you live in His universe and then thank Him again and again for including you in His family through your faith in the Creator Jesus.

wow!! where have i been the last couple of weeks? no posts no videos no nothin. I must have been slackin... or maybe i've just been busy. prolly a lil of both.

but this friday is gonna be the best dinner event GCUMC has ever seen. It starts at 7pm. It's a chicken dinner, chicken with a lil orange glaze. if you've ever had orange duck it's like that but with chicken. it comes with a wedge salad and dessert, sides are green beans almandine and rice pilaf. All for $10!!! what a deal?
We will also have live music performed by the Franklin Heights Jazz Ensemble and a small dance floor for you folks to shake your heinies (alex and amy). Accompanied by a silent auctions of some very awesome baskets. I've got a few in my office and they are sweet! there's a phot basket, movie night, gardening, coloring and many more. I'm pretty amped.
Tickets are still available so bring your friends and make a night of it.

Summer Missions
Due to unforeseen circumstances this year’s Summer Mission has been changed. Our new destination will be to Chicago, IL. Our new date will be July 12—July 18. The cost for the trip is the same, a $50 deposit now and a $50 payment due June 1 (total $100). Our mission will be partnering with local ministries and programs such as soup kitchens, elderly and children centers that seek to address the very basic needs of Chicago's residents. We desire to serve unselfishly, by doing whatever will truly help the community.
Adult leaders will separate youth into ministry groups, and the youth in your group will be mixed with the youth from other groups for their week of service. Due to other churches joining you on your mission adventure, as well as unique and varying needs of the ministries with which we partner, we cannot confirm until we arrive exactly what ministries our youth will be working with. We ask that you come with a willing and flexible spirit
